New Year Requirements

admin Uncategorized

With the start of the new year we wanted to make sure that everyone remains current with their safety programs. Some requirements need to be addressed within a short amount of time, while others will be spaced out throughout the year.

1) Most likely the first issue you may come across is the OSHA 300 Forms requirements. The link here: OSHA 300 Forms contains a document with the forms, as wells as information regarding using the forms. Per the requirements of 29 CFR 1904 all companies that have more than 10 employees (meaning 11 or more) are required to post their OSHA 300A Form “in each establishment in a conspicuous place or places where notices to employees are customarily posted. You must ensure that the posted annual summary is not altered, defaced or covered by other material,” per 29 CFR 1904.32(b)(5). This must be posted in these locations from February 1st through April 30th of each year. While you are not required to post the 300 Form (as opposed to the 300A Form), you are still required to fill it out throughout the year as incidents occur. Once the 300A Form can be taken down after April 30th, it still must be retained for at least 5 years.

Even if you company has 10 or fewer employees, the OSHA 300 Forms requirements might still be required by clients. Most companies utilizing ISNetworld are required to submit 300 and 300A Forms regardless of company size.

2) The new year also means at some point you need to complete annual requirements. This includes, but may not be limited to:

  • Annual training, such as access to medical records and bloodborne pathogens
  • Policy manual review and revision
  • Workplace and Personal Protective Equipment hazard assessments
  • Annual inspections on equipment
  • Fire extinguisher servicing

3) In additional to annual requirements, this is a perfect time to review other requirements to ensure your company remains in compliance. Industrial Hygiene sampling usually should be conducted every 2-3 years per industry standards. Certain certifications, such as CPR, forklift, and cranes, have varied retraining cycles. Some types of equipment require additional servicing at given intervals, such as fire extinguishers and air tanks.
