Overview of Wyoming Workers Compensation Discount Programs
Wyoming Workers Compensation offers a variety of discount programs designed to reward employers who take proactive steps toward improving workplace safety and reducing workplace injuries. These programs provide percentage-based discounts on base Workers Compensation premiums, depending on your commitment to safety, risk management, and the overall well-being of your employees.
At CS Consulting, we work with employers to navigate these programs, ensuring you receive the best possible workers compensation rates while staying compliant with Wyoming state regulations. Whether you’re interested in consultant discounts, deductible programs, drug-free workplace initiatives, or safety-focused discounts, we offer comprehensive support to help you unlock the full potential of these programs.
Consultant Discount Program: Unlock Significant Savings
The Consultant Discount Program is one of the most beneficial discount options available under Wyoming Workers Compensation. This program offers employers the opportunity to reduce their premiums by working with approved safety experts and consultants to correct workplace hazards. There are four tiers of discounts available, depending on the level of safety improvements you implement.
Four Tiers of Consultant Discounts:
- 3% Discount – Employers who invite and work with a Wyoming OSHA Consultation, Safety Specialist, or Mine Inspector to identify and correct hazards in the workplace can receive this discount.
- 5% Discount – This higher discount level is available for employers who, in addition to addressing workplace hazards, score a 2 or higher on a management survey. Companies enrolled in the Employer Voluntary Protection Program (EVTAP) typically qualify for this level.
- 7% Discount – Employers who meet the same requirements as the 5% discount but also participate in the Safety and Health Recognition Program (SHARP) are eligible for a 7% discount, provided their Total Recordable Case (TRC) and Days Away, Restricted, or Transferred (DART) rates fall below the NAICS industry average.
- 10% Discount – This is the highest discount available, requiring employers to work with safety experts, correct workplace hazards, and score a 3 or higher on at least 10% of the management survey questions. Employers participating in either the SHARP or Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) programs can qualify for this discount, assuming their TRC and DART rates meet eligibility criteria.
These workers compensation discounts are available for three years, with the potential for onsite audits to confirm continued compliance. If issues are found during these audits, the discount could be revoked. Importantly, CS Consulting’s Steven Dacus is an approved private consultant for Wyoming OSHA Consultation, and he is available to assist you in making the necessary improvements and applying for these discounts.
Deductible Program: Reduce Premiums by Assuming a Portion of Risk
Another significant way to reduce Workers Compensation premiums is through Wyoming’s Deductible Program. This program allows employers to assume a portion of the risk in exchange for premium savings. By participating in the Deductible Program, you commit to paying for a portion of the claims made within your policy, which can result in substantial reductions in your overall premium.
Deductible Program Discount Levels:
- 4% Discount – Employers who agree to pay the first $1,000 of all claims will qualify for a 4% premium discount.
- 10% Discount – Employers who assume responsibility for the first $5,000 of claims receive a 10% discount.
- 15% Discount – Employers who take on the first $10,000 of claims qualify for a 15% discount.
- 25% Discount – Employers who cover the first $25,000 of claims receive a 25% discount.
- 37.5% Discount – With the employer assuming the first $50,000 of claims, a 37.5% discount applies.
- 45% Discount – Employers who accept responsibility for the first $75,000 of claims get a 45% discount.
- 50% Discount – Finally, employers who are willing to pay the first $100,000 of claims receive the maximum 50% discount on their premiums.
The Deductible Program requires employers to provide a Surety Bond, Letter of Credit, or a cash deposit to guarantee the payment of claims within the chosen deductible level. Employers must commit to the program for a full calendar year, after which they can choose whether to continue or opt out.
Drug-Free Workplace Discount: Ensure a Safe and Productive Environment
A drug-free workplace not only enhances the safety and well-being of your employees but also offers a significant financial incentive through the Drug-Free Workplace Discount Program. This program provides a 10% discount on Workers Compensation premiums each year, provided that your company meets a set of stringent requirements designed to create and maintain a drug-free environment.

To qualify for the 10% discount, employers must meet the following conditions:
Requirements for the Drug-Free Workplace Discount:
- 100% Pre-Employment Testing: Ensure that all new employees are tested for substance abuse before being hired.
- 20% Random Testing Pool: At least 20% of your workforce should be included in a random drug testing pool.
- Post-Accident Testing: Employees involved in workplace accidents should be tested for drugs and alcohol.
- Reasonable Suspicion Testing: Employees who are suspected of being under the influence must be tested.
- Annual Training: Employees should undergo at least one hour of substance abuse training every year, while supervisors must complete two hours of training annually.
Implementing a drug-free policy not only protects your workers but also demonstrates your commitment to maintaining a safe workplace. CS Consulting can assist in setting up drug-free workplace programs, training your employees, and ensuring full compliance with all requirements.
Safety Discount Program: Promote Safety and Save on Premiums
The Safety Discount Program is a great way for businesses to earn discounts while also promoting a safer work environment. The program has three distinct levels, each with its own set of requirements, designed to help employers implement, maintain, and improve safety practices within their organization.
Safety Discount Levels:
- 3.33% Discount: Employers who have a documented health and safety program in place can receive this discount.
- 6.66% Discount: Employers who have a health and safety program and also maintain a documented safety committee with monthly meetings qualify for this discount.
- 10% Discount: This premium discount is available for employers who have a health and safety program, hold documented monthly meetings, and achieve and maintain a loss ratio of 10% or less.
By implementing a robust safety program, companies can not only reduce their premiums but also foster a culture of safety that benefits everyone involved.
